Druckers article
I thought Druckers stance on people's strengths was very insightful. I thought it was interesting that he said that most people do not really know what their real strengths are, and that usually people are wrong about their strengths. Drucker stated that the only real way to know someone's strengths is through feedback analysis. You do this by writing down what you expect will happen everytime you make a key decision or action. Then, 9 to 12 months later, compare your actual results with your expectations. I thought this was a really good idea and I plan to use it in my future to help identify my strengths.

Brian, I also thought the concept of feedback analysis was very interesting and I am going to challenge myself to utilize this tool of Drucker's in my first job. His quote about how people don't know their strengths really got me to step back and ponder. I think most people know at least SOME things they are good at but it is a great point that some people might not be aware of their hidden talents and may take them for granten. Realistically, if they were identified they could be utilized more effectively and effeciently and it may enhance individual performance.

ReplyDeleteBrian and Kristin, I agree with both of you and have also decided to institute this idea of feedback analysis in my life. But I propose the same question that I have to everyone else. Do you believe there is more of an efficient way of identifying our strengths and weakness that has a shorter time table than 12 months?
ReplyDeleteBrian, I agree (though I do not think that it is essentially to write everything down). But I have found that, like with most things worthwhile, it is tough to stick with them especially if you are busy. So it takes a lot of work to persevere (good luck). Furthermore, to answer Jim, if you are constantly analyzing your progress, you will more quickly discover success or failure. Thus, it may not take 12 months.
